Packaging Design 4 All
Today more than 673 million people worldwide are older than 60 years of age. In addition, the aging of the world’s population is on the increase. This population development brings with it a corresponding increase in the importance placed on the needs of older people. Society’s adjustment to these needs will become an issue.
This will only be able to be done via the design of products that are able to take into consideration the needs of consumers of every age. The focus of the project Packaging Design 4 All was the design of product packaging that allowed older people to remain independent, irrespective of their age and physical condition.
Gemeinsam sind wir stark
The product Gemeinsam sind wir stark (Together we are strong) is able to be converted into an ideal bottle-opening aid. Each bottle cap of this type has an indentation on its top surface as well as an enlargement on its side, which allows two bottle caps to be joined with each other. In order to open the desired drink, a second bottle is placed on top of the bottle which is due to be opened and is then rotated as a lever.
I Can!
I Can! is a packaging that follows the modern trend towards convenience foods. The cup that fits snugly onto the bottle top has two additional
functions: it can be used as a drinking vessel and also as an aid to open the bottle. The increased surface area of the cup makes it easier for the consumer to open the bottle. The grooves in the cup make sure that it doesn’t slip when being used as an opening device.
PlusMinus
PlusMinus was developed from the observation
that in many senior households a large number of everyday objects are often converted
into opening devices for packaging.
Housekeys, for example, can be inserted in the slot in the upper quarter of the bottle cap and then used as a lever to improve the consu-mer’s grip on the lid. The result is that the bottle can be opened with much less force.
Carry On

Carry On consists of a specialised drinks crate with a carry handle and easy-to-open bottle caps. The fact that there is place for only four bottles means that much less weight is transported
than in a traditional drinks crate.
The carry handle in the centre of the crate can act as an aid for the user. Via a 45° rotation the handle can be removed from the centre of the crate and can be used to help with opening the bottles.
Take it easy

Take it easy is made from a single flat sheet of plastic. Via only a few incisions in the plastic it is transformed into a carrying aid for up to three bottles. At the top of the device there is a half circular opening which serves as a handle.
